Incorporate Expectancy Theory Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Incorporate Expectancy Theory - Article Example Other than the hygiene and food, the sailors have to sleep on single beds and do so for not more than 5 hours so. This is so that they can ensure they continue to race and relieve each other of the duty to sail and control the boat at all times due to the harsh conditions of the water they are sailing in. In order to prevent them from giving up, they have to build relationships with each other and live like married couples. This is important for support and surviving the extreme conditions in all the 10 days. The other way is to visualize the end prize as well as build the worst case scenarios on their heads so that the reality is much more tolerable and the sailors would be mentally prepared to handle it. Being disciplined enough to stick to a routine and getting enough time to rest and sleep are also important for success not forgetting being extraordinarily selfish and simply thinking about the competition and winning alone (Webster, 2011). Expectancy theory is all about putting on effort and acting in a certain way because one is expecting a reward at the end. The individual effort that is put on an activity is transformed into good or even excellent performance which will lead to a reward and hence having attained a personal goal. This is the same theory that drives the performance of the extreme sports sailors discussed in detail above (McShane, et al 2013). The sailors expect that by putting in a lot of effort towards their practice as well as adhere to the advice provided by their psychologists and other trainers, they will be able to endure while sailing and hence increase their performance level. The increased effort they put towards their sailing will lead them to complete the race within the specified timeline and will most probably be able to have fulfilled their specific goal (Kremer & Moran, 2013).

Primarily, the value of sports is a crucial topic for anyone trying to understand this industry must review. Considering a study by Deloitte, which was conducted first in 1992, and the last time it was conducted in 2013, the football industry has grown by 14 times from its initial  £170 million to its current value, estimated to be  £2.3 billion. Such growth levels indicate that this is probably one of the greatest drivers of the economy. In Europe, the football industry is one of the biggest industries with even venture capitalists investing in it. The value of the football industry has changed over a short period of time and this can be attributed to a number of features which range from exposure to increase in global interest in the sport (Sports Business Group, 2013). This growth in profits and revenues is not only accounted for by ticket sales, but also from endorsements from other companies and the invisible aspect of how much the football industry has improved other industries as well. Pay TV, for instance, is one of the industries that has greatly benefitted from football, with the increase in numbers of viewers and the development of more programs for the game. Media companies such as Super-Sport, ESPN, SKY sports and ITV digital are some firms that have reaped profits from football seasons impressively. Commercialization of the industry has also boosted its value appreciably. In 2012, the premier league was ranked as one of the highest grossing organizations in the UK. In just a mere season, the domestic rights for the broadcasting of soccer games were sold for over  £ 1 billion per year, which amounts to 18% of all domestic media rights in the UK. The Moon is Dawn Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Moon is Dawn - Essay Example During World War II Steinbeck wrote some effective pieces of government propaganda, among them The Moon Is Down (1942), a novel of Norwegians under the Nazis, and he also served as a war correspondent. His immediate postwar work-Cannery Row (1945), The Pearl (1947), and The Wayward Bus (1947)-contained the familiar elements of his social criticism but were more relaxed in approach and sentimental in tone. The Moon is Down is Steinbeck's work of genius. It is the account of invasion of idealist soldiers from the provinces, powered by hostility principles, whose yearning to build their fortune sets in action measures both attention-grabbing and tragic. His representation of the invaders through showing their positive and negative traits during early-nineteenth-century was remarkable and enlightening. The book stays as a matchless and incomparable creation, one that brilliantly anticipates modern literature. Steinbeck originally wrote The Moon is Down set in a medium sized American town. Steinbeck submitted for approval to the [office of] the Foreign Information Service. Officials there rejected it because they feared that postulating an American defeat might be demoralizing. intro. p. ix Steinbeck revised the work and s... p. ix Steinbeck revised the work and set it in an unnamed country in Europe. The Moon is Down became a staple of the underground resistance in many occupied countries in Europe. The Nazi's banned it in the countries they occupied; yet many risked their lives to get it circulated. In Italy, if an individual was found with a copy, it was punishable by death. This was written as a propaganda piece in 1942 and smuggled into occupied Europe where it was then translated into several languages and produced and distributed under a very real threat of death. Set in a fictitious country (sort of Norway, kind of like France, etc.) invaded by an unstated but thinly-disguised Germany, The Moon is Down was wildly popular in occupied Europe. In this short novel, the citizens of this occupied town and their occupiers are portrayed as complex, fully-realized characters rather than as the interchangeable stock heroes or evil-doers of many war novels. Sitting safely at his typewriter in the U.S., it would have been easy for Steinbeck to portray the Nazis as evil incarnate but instead they have hopes, dreams and fears at least as complex as the good guys. The book does a fine job of detailing the conflicting emotions of both occupiers and occupied. "The Moon Is Down" was a work of propaganda written by Steinbeck and distributed to Nazi-occupied Europe as moral support for the conquered peoples. Some of the finer works of literature are propaganda pieces. There is nothing inherently wrong with propaganda; what determines its worth (besides its qualities as literature) is the content of its message. And the message contained in "The Moon Is Down" is that a free people may be physically conquered by brute force for a time, but that their spirits will never be subjugated, and

The Various Concepts of Factors for the Job Satisfaction Essay

The Various Concepts of Factors for the Job Satisfaction - Essay Example Comparing and contrasting the various concepts of factors that contribute to job satisfaction. In my view, the factors of appreciation, support, employee feedback, remuneration, relationship with the manager are all factors which are most essential for an employee to be completely satisfied with his or her job. If an employee is appreciated for his good work and efforts, such an employee will tend to work hard every time and face challenges and overcome them because that employee will know that he will be recognized for his/her efforts. The support that he gets from his seniors and his colleagues at his workplace boosts his courage to work through work problems. Moreover, if the management maintains a routine of reviewing the on job positives and negatives through the employees feedback such employees feel that they are being heard and protected. The salary that the employees are being paid is one major factor that can either completely motivate or demotivate the employees. Steps to improve employee morale and overall job satisfaction: the concept of morale includes both fragments of satisfaction and motivation. Morale is basically the motivation and determination that the employees tend to carry on their jobs with. Employee job satisfaction affects the morale and consequently, the determinants of job satisfaction give in to the forecast of morale within the worker. I would make sure that our company implies the factors of employee appreciation, support, employee feedback, employee remuneration, employee relationship with the manager.
